Feature Film: The Taking of Pelham One Two Three In-Person
As we tour the U.S. in our It Happened in America film series, we’re taking a side trip for It Happened on a Train: A Film Series. Come for four wild U.S. train rides with kidnappers, a psychopath, a brave engineer, and international tourists on Tuesdays at 7 p.m.
On July 29, see The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974), starring Walter Matthau and Robert Shaw. Four armed hijackers, Mr. Blue, Mr. Green, Mr. Grey, and Mr. Brown, commandeer a New York City subway car and demand a $1 million ransom to release 18 terrified passengers.
On August 5, watch Strangers on a Train (1951), starring Robert Walker and Farley Granger. Psychopath Bruno Antony tries to persuade tennis star Guy Haines to exchange murders and kill Bruno’s father if he kills Guy’s wife so that neither man will be caught.
On August 12, enjoy The General (1926), starring Buster Keaton and Marion Mack. During the Civil War, southern locomotive engineer Johnnie Gray fights to recapture his train “The General” when it and Johnnie’s girlfriend Annabelle Lee are caught by Union spies.
On August 19, sit back for Mystery Train (1989), starring Steve Buscemi and Screamin’ Jay Hawkins. Japanese tourists Mitsuko and Jun, Italian widow Luisa, and Englishman Johnny and his pals Will and Charlie cross paths at the rundown Arcade Hotel in Memphis, TN.
This event is free and open to all.
