Feature Film: Leave Her to Heaven In-Person
Film noir wasn’t only in black-and-white. Those hardboiled melodramas and detective films from the 1940s and 1950s were sometimes made in color, too.
Come enjoy four dark and gripping tales that even Technicolor can’t cheer up on Tuesdays at 7 p.m.
On July 21, see Leave Her to Heaven (1945), starring Gene Tierney and Cornel Wilde. Novelist Richard Harland marries possessive socialite Ellen Berent and is shocked to learn how far she will go to have him all to herself.
On July 28, come for Desert Fury (1947), starring Burt Lancaster and Lizabeth Scott. Paula Haller, rebellious daughter of a casino owner, falls for racketeer Eddie Bendix and upsets the relationship between Eddie and his violent pal Johnny Ryan.
On August 4, watch Inferno (1953), starring Robert Ryan and Rhonda Fleming. Alcoholic millionaire Donald Whitley Carson III breaks his leg in the desert and is left to die by his scheming wife Carol and her greedy lover Joseph.
On August 11, witness Bad Day at Black Rock (1955), starring Spencer Tracy and Robert Ryan. When one-armed John Macreedy arrives in a tiny desert town looking for a man named Kamoko, the locals turn on him and force him to fight for his life.
This event is free and open to all.
