Perimenopause and menopause are having a cultural moment. After a 2002 study effectively halted all prescribing of hormone therapy, women have been suffering unnecessarily and largely in silence. We are now rising up out of this decades-long embargo on menopause medicine and hormone therapy, but the available information is boundless and confusing, particularly on social media. Erin Kunkel, MD is a gynecologist and menopause specialist at Direct Doctors in East Greenwich, RI. She received her MD from Brown University and completed a residency in OBGYN at Pennsylvania Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Her areas of expertise include general gynecology, PCOS, abnormal uterine bleeding, sexual health, perimenopause and menopause, and weight management.
